The Pan-Mass Challenge is issuing a call for volunteers to help support the organization’s work towards a world without cancer.

In addition to its marquee, two-day bike-a-thon across Massachusetts, the organization is powered by further “spokes in the wheel,” including its beloved PMC Kids Rides, mini bike-a-thons throughout New England for children ages 2 to 15. From tricycle obstacle courses to challenging 10-mile rides, PMC Kids Rides offer a variety of terrains and distances, each designed to engage young cyclists and empower the next generation with opportunities to fight cancer.

As the PMC continues to grow its Kids Rides programming in the region, it is seeking eager, dedicated, and passionate volunteers to serve as PMC Kids Ride Coordinators. As PMC Kids Ride Coordinators, volunteers will have a unique opportunity to partner with PMC staff and current coordinators in other markets to plan, promote, and execute an engaging ride in their local community and raise funds to support critical cancer research and care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Regions in need of PMC Kids Ride Coordinators include:

  • Barnstable, MA
  • Burlington, MA
  • Falmouth, MA
  • Newburyport, MA
  • Worcester, MA
  • Newport, RI
  • Providence, RI

Since its first event in 1998, the PMC Kids Ride program has raised more than $12 million, including more than $405,000 in 2025, and 100 percent of every rider-raised dollar goes directly to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The PMC is Dana-Farber’s single largest contributor, generating 67 percent of the Jimmy Fund’s annual revenue.

The Pan-Mass Challenge is presented by the Red Sox Foundation and M&T Bank. The PMC Kids Rides program is presented by the Yawkey Foundation. Program sponsors include 105.7 WROR, Landry’s Bicycles, and New Balance.

About the Pan-Mass Challenge

ThePan-Mass Challenge(PMC) is a bike-a-thon that today raises more money for charity than any other single athletic fundraising event in the world. Founded in 1980 byBilly Starr – who remains the event's founder & chairman, an annual cyclist, and a fundraiser – the PMC has raised $1.125 billion for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through the Jimmy Fund. As Dana-Farber’s single largest contributor, the organization generates 67 percent of the Jimmy Fund’s annual revenue. 100 percent of every rider-raised dollar goes directly to fueling cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber. In addition to its two-day bike-a-thon across Massachusetts, the PMC is powered by further “spokes in the wheel,” with initiatives including the PMC Winter Cycle, an indoor spin event, PMC Unpaved, a gravel bike ride, and PMC Kids Rides, mini bike-a-thons for children ages 2 to 15. The PMC attracts riders and volunteers from 47 states and 12 countries and over 300,000 individual donors. Across events, the PMC has successfully melded support from committed cyclists, volunteers, corporate sponsors, and individual donors, all of whom are essential to the PMC's goal and model: to attain maximum fundraising efficiency while increasing its annual gift. The PMC's aspiration is to provide Dana-Farber's doctors and researchers with the necessary resources to discover cures for all cancers. For more information, visitpmc.org.
