Welcome to the PMC Chatham-Brewster Kids Ride!

 

The Chatham-Brewster PMC kids rides will take place Saturday - June 12, 2010.  This is a Rain or Shine Event.  Kids Pre-School through Middle School are invited to join us on one of 2 ride locations in Chatham and Brewster.

 

Younger Kids can choose a small track set up at the Stony Brook Elementary School in Brewster.  They will ride on kid friendly tracks on their trikes, bikes, big wheels, scooters or one wheelers - training wheels are welcome!

 

Middle School Age students can choose to ride the longer Rail Trail Ride which is nearly 30 miles round trip.  This year we are offering a 1/2 ride as well.  Some students can choose to ride from Chatham to Brewster (approx 17 miles) or Chatham to Brewster and back to Chatham for the full 30 mile route).  These riders will begin and end at the Chatham Middle School and ride entirely on the Old Colony Rail Trail and the Cape Cod Rail Trail, and travel through the towns of Chatham, Harwich, and Brewster.

 

The Middle School Riders will stop along the trail on their way through Brewster and join the Younger Kids Ride at the Stony Brook Elementary School to cheer on and support the younger kids, have lunch, and enjoy festivities including raffles, games and music before continuing back to Chatham.

Riders will be assigned to a group with an adult rider, and must stay with that group. Depending on conditions, older riders may also be assigned to groups. Any older rider who prefers to ride with an adult rider will be assigned to a group.

$10 to register, $25 or more fundraising is suggested.  This year the PMC is challenging riders to be a Heavy Hitter and raise $250.  Each rider who raises $250 will be awarded a special Heavy Hitter PMC Hat, Helmet Sticker and Heavy Hitter Certificate.  So get creative and start your fundraising now!

 

The Chatham PMC Ride was started 4 years ago by Chatham Middle School PE Teacher - Glenn McVickar (a long-time PMC cyclist) in honor of Rick Williams, a retired Phys. Ed. teacher and frequent volunteer at the middle school.  Mr. Williams passed away in September 2007 after battling brain cancer for two years. 2010 expands the ride to Chatham-Brewster and includes the younger children.  Glenn's Mission was to educate his students on a fun way to become more active, we extend this to any interested kids.  The ride became a PMC Kids Ride in 2005.   This ride raised over $8,000 in 2009, we hope to double it this year.  If you or your business want to be involved in the ride, let us know!
